I don’t know exactly how a lawsuit by the PM against Dion and others in the Liberal Party is going to play, but I have a couple of theories. I can’t really see this helping Harper – it continues to bring up a scandal that does no good for the CPC, and has zero loss for the Liberals.
Donna Cadman seems to have walked right into the Conservative Party and blown herself up – I suppose the people that should be most happy about that are the NDP, who are now practically guaranteed to hold on to the Surrey North riding, barring something incredible, such as, I don’t know, the Second Coming. (Although why this would make the NDP loose is beyond me – perhaps the whole election would be called off?) What gets me most about the CadScam affair is that it shows a total disrespect for the principles of accountability that Harper preached in the last election. They have misrepresented the truth in declaring that the tape was doctored, and have generally acted in bad faith.
Bring it on is all I can say. Show people that when the going gets tough, the Conservatives will turn to scare tactics and intimidation. Show that the Conservatives have no plan, and are content to take swipes from the government benches. Show them that the Conservatives should be put back in Opposition.

The Tories have been cleared by the RCMP; no evidence of wrongdoing. There is the very real possibility that the tape will be proven doctored. So just how are the Liberals going to defend themselves against this lawsuit?
How much money are the Liberals going to have when the Liberals lose this lawsuit and they have to pay? And then there is the question of the Green Shift name and the lawsuit there, too.
I hear many Liberal supporters blather about how the Liberals will FINALLY challenge the government in the Fall after running for so long. How are they going to do that when they have no money left? LOL “Bring it on”, indeed.
HAHAHAHAHAHA…
Keep drinking that kool-aid
It’s like you’re in the Bizzarro Universe.
Every legal expert I’ve seen on TV or read in print has unequivocally stated that the Liberals cannot win this case, based on evidence at hand. I have yet to hear a legal opinion stating that the Liberals can win this.
The Liberal Party, sensing this, has already tried to settle this case out of court, but the talks with the Conservative party broke down because no public statement of apology was forthcoming from the LPC.
The $3.5 million the LPC stands to lose to Stephen Harper (which will be given to charity) will severely cripple the party financially. Put this on top of the incredibly poor LPC fundraising efforts, the lack of ability for Liberal leadership contenders to retire their debts, the recently revealed outstanding $2 million loan taken out by the LPC at 9% interest, and the possibility of a TM infringement suit from the real Green Shift, and the Liberals could be rowing in the same dire straits as General Motors is now.
Where in heaven’s name would all the money come from?
Kuldip, you don’t get around enough. It is true that our libel laws are heavily tilted toward the offended, but the LPC was just relying on a tape which the author insists is legitimate and Harper has shown no inclination to challenge the author legally.
As soon as I read about the initial lawsuit on AGWN, I immediately thought that Harper wants to settle out of court with a secrecy agreement (this has been his style previously). Otherwise, Harper is going to have to testify in court and give some explanation of “financial considerations” that is believable and legal. If he wanted to do that, he would have already done that. So they were negotiating and the talks broke down and Harper adds on a charge of misappropriation of personality (using someone’s picture or identity in an advertisement without getting their approval). That just reeks of desperation. What’s he going to do next if the Liberals don’t settle? Sue Dion under the hate crime act?
It was a stupid move to sue and the Liberals should let it go to court. I’m more concerned that Harper will offer them money (everyone knows the Liberal fundraising hasn’t been great) and they will settle with a secrecy agreement and I’ll never get to hear Harper testify in a court of law about financial considerations to a dying MP whose vote was crucial.
